About

Fifteen years of culture-bending design

The Unconventional Path

Since 2001, FiveStone has locked arms with organizations fighting to make our world a better place. These partners all share one thing in common: the guts to take the unconventional path to foster human flourishing, dignity, and sustainability in all areas of their organizations. Whether an early stage endeavor or an incumbent desiring change, our work is designed to materialize key business objectives that drive effective outcomes – social, environmental, and economic – for all stakeholders.

Our Mindset

Proper Questions

Success depends on starting with the right questions. Thanks, Aristotle. Often, this means digging deep into our client’s work, which is exactly where we like to be.

Reject Inevitability

Our imaginations aren’t limited by the way things are. Instead, we fight for new ways of seeing, doing, thinking, and being.

Reflect Beauty

Pragmatism has its place, but more often than not we ask, “What beauty do we see around us and how can we reflect that in our work?”

Meaningful Missions

Gone are the days of broken models that sound good, but do nothing. We look for meaningful companies, built on meaningful models, expressing themselves in meaningful ways.

Working with partners like these kicks us out of bed in the morning.

We love what we do and who we do it with. Our partners include some of the brightest innovators in the world, who are solving some of the biggest challenges of our generation. If that doesn’t kick you out of bed in the morning, nothing will.

Meet the Team

Our core team has worked with more than 250 entrepreneurial endeavors across a broad spectrum of domains in a variety of capacities, including roles as advisors, mentors, founders, and executives, in addition to working with our many clients in the for-profit and non-profit sectors. Within that broad range of expertise, you will find a common thread: we all believe design can change the world.

Sam has been online making stuff for 23 years, taking the occasional break to get married and raise a kid or three. Before joining FiveStone, Sam was co-owner and CTO of NoiseTrade (now owned by PledgeMusic). Late at night, he finds comfort in mozzarella sticks, Billy Collins, and the fact that New York City doesn't need or want him.

Our Culture

We are a team working towards a common mission to see good seep into society through our work. This not only drives who we work with, but also how we operate our agency. You won't find us acting like the typical NYC studio that sucks the marrow out of the team, and then sends them home to ramen and Friends re-runs. Instead, we have a healthy time-off policy, we prioritize individual growth, and we cultivate a culture where team members genuinely care for each other. In other words, people are just as important as every other business metric.

See our projects.

Talk to us.
